Richard Charlwood has been painting icons for the past thirty-five years.
His first teacher was a Greek Iconographer, Efstathios Loupos, who lived and worked in Sydney.
In 1989 and in 1993, Richard travelled overseas and met with a number of iconographers; visiting many Byzantine churches and monasteries, including the Holy Mountain (Mt Athos) in northern Greece.
The icons and frescoes he saw in those places remain a source of inspiration to him today.
He has painted commissions for both churches and individuals in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Bunbury and Perth.
Richard has led icon painting classes.
He lives in Perth where he teaches Indonesian to Primary students.
Richard is also a priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.
