The inscription on this icon of Christ is in Greek. “IC” and “XC”, is a four letter abbreviation of the Greek for Jesus (IHCOYC) Christ (XPICTOC).
In Christ’s halo is the Cross – the Cross of Salvation.
On the three visible arms are the Greek letters ὁ ὢν which means “He who is”. This is a reference to Christ’s divinity. This is the same name revealed to Moses on Mt Sinai.
In the Book of Revelation St. John uses the phrase: “Who is (ὁ ὢν), Who was, and Who is coming” to refer to Jesus Christ.
These revelations of Jesus Christ’s nature and the Holy Trinity are preserved in Christ’s Halo.
